Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio has been Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan since May 2026.

Born in Rome in 1956, he has been a Swiss citizen since 2010. He studied at Collegio San Gabriele, where he obtained his classical high school diploma in 1975, and subsequently completed his military service as “Ufficiale dei Carabinieri” in 1978–1979. In 1982, he graduated in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Rome La Sapienza.

He began his professional career in 1982 at Chevron Oil Italiana, working in the Planning Department. He subsequently founded a number of companies active in oil broking, oil trading and shipping, including Newoil S.r.l. in Rome in 1985, Channoil Ltd in London in 1986, Galaxy Energy in 1989, Andromeda Shipping in 1991, Galaxy Energy S.A. in Geneva in 1992, and International Andromeda Shipping S.A.M. and Galaxy Management S.A.M. in Monaco in 1995.

He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Andromeda Shipholding Ltd, which owns eight tankers, and of International Andromeda Shipping S.A.M., which manages a fleet of more than 30 vessels. He has also held a number of board positions, including as a member of the Board of API Anonima Petroli Italiana from 1990 to 1995 and of The London Steam Ship Owners’ Mutual Insurance Association Ltd from 2000 to 2022.

His engagement with the Order of Malta began in 2024, when he served as Advisor to the Ambassador of the Order in Monaco. In May 2026, he was appointed Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
